The people of First Baptist Church started Ohio Valley Christian School on July 24, 1977. The school operates under a Governing Board consisting of the Pastor, Associate Pastor, Administrator, and other members who are elected by the church. The school opened on September 6, 1977 with 39 students in grades K-6 with a staff of 7 people. Grades were added each year so that the first senior class graduated in 1982. OVCS grew to have 259 students and 29 people on the staff in 1998. All classes are conducted in the facilities of First Baptist Church. In 1982 the church built a gymnasium and in 1998 a new auditorium and elementary educational building were built. OVCS began with a commitment to give students a quality Christian education through a self-contained classroom approach and extra-curricular activities. The school has maintained much higher than average scores on standardized tests. First Baptist Church and Ohio Valley Christian School seek to continue this tradition of quality Christian education. |
