Academics

OVCS provides an academically excellent, distinctively Christian education to Pre-K through 12th-grade students from southeastern Ohio and western West Virginia. The results from the TerraNova Standardized Test place OVCS in the top 25% of the nation's schools. Students from our school consistently score above the state and national averages on the ACT and SAT exams. 90% of graduates from OVCS attend a four-year college or university.

OVCS is a non-public, chartered school through the Ohio Department of Education and a member of the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS), partnering with the West Virginia Christian Education Association (WVCEA).

CURRICULUM

OVCS offers elementary curriculum Pre-K through Grade 6. Early Education classes stress acquiring reading skills through a phonics approach (some whole language skill is integrated as needed).

The school employs Abeka, Bob Jones University Press, Saxon Math, and Purposeful Design as the backbone of its textbook offerings. 7-12th grade teachers will supplement classroom material from other sources while ensuring it is taught from a thoroughly Biblical worldview.

Nearly all classrooms are equipped with SmartBoard technology. Students have access to laptop computers and/or tablets linked to a high-capacity wireless network. All teachers are fully qualified and are certified through the Ohio Department of Education.

All classes adhere to or exceed the content standards as mandated by the Ohio Department of Education.

FINE ARTS

OVCS provides opportunities for the development of musical and artistic talents.

OVCS provides music education for both elementary and high schools. The elementary school presents two programs, one at Christmas and again in the Spring. These programs are open to families, friends, and supporters of the school. The secondary choir is comprised of 7-12th grade students who also present 2 concerts during the school year.

The junior high curriculum includes both music and art appreciation that are offered on an alternating basis every other year.

The school also offers an art gallery each year where students are encouraged to submit paintings, photographs, sculptures, and other forms of art that are open for public viewing.
